Top 6 Breakfast Recipes You Can Make With 5 Ingredients or Less

The annoying thing about most "simple" recipes is that "simple" turns out to mean eight ingredients, three of which you don't have and won't use again. These six actually mean it — five ingredients or fewer, all things you'd reasonably already own or can grab in one supermarket aisle.

Two of the six recipes below use exactly three ingredients each.

1. Creamy Milk Oatmeal

⏱️ Time: 15 minutes

3 ingredients: milk, oats, salt

Simmer oats in milk with a pinch of salt for 5–7 minutes, take it off the heat, and let it sit for a few more before serving. Sweeten with honey or top with whatever's around — the base recipe stays at three ingredients either way.

2. Avocado Toast with Egg

⏱️ Time: 15 minutes

3 ingredients: bread, avocado, egg

Steps

  1. Toast the bread.
  2. Mash the avocado and spread it on top.
  3. Cook the egg — fried or boiled — and place it on top.

The most-copied breakfast of the last decade exists because it's actually this easy, not despite it.

3. Scrambled Eggs

⏱️ Time: 5 minutes

4 ingredients: eggs, salt, oil or butter

Whisk, melt, cook low and slow, stirring gently until just set. The whole skill here is patience, not ingredients.

4. Cottage Cheese with Berries and Honey

⏱️ Time: 5 minutes

4 ingredients: cottage cheese, berries, honey, cinnamon or vanilla (optional)

No cooking at all. Spoon cottage cheese into a bowl, add berries, drizzle honey, dust with cinnamon if you want it. Done in the time it takes to find a clean bowl.

(No time to shop for even four ingredients? Yollly's fridge photo feature works the other way around — it looks at what you already have and tells you what you can make, instead of handing you a list to go buy.)

5. Yogurt in a Jar with Fruits

⏱️ Time: 10 minutes

4 ingredients: banana, apple, yogurt, honey

Cube the fruit, layer it with yogurt in a jar — yogurt, fruit, yogurt — drizzle with honey, and either eat it layered or stir it together. Makes well the night before if you want it cold and ready.

6. Chocolate Yogurt Parfait

⏱️ Time: 10 minutes

5 ingredients: Greek yogurt, cocoa powder, honey, granola, chocolate chips

Stir cocoa and honey into yogurt until smooth, layer with granola and chocolate chips. It's currently the single most-liked breakfast on Yollly, and the ingredient list explains a good chunk of why — nothing here requires a special trip to the store.

None of these need a shopping list longer than what fits in one hand. Keep two or three of the ingredients above stocked and you've always got a breakfast ready.
